What Is the Ideal Temperature for a Hot Tub?

Few things in life are as relaxing as taking a nice long soak after a long stressful day. Having a private hot tub makes it convenient to relax at home, but a big part of that relaxation has to do with water temperature. Finding your ideal hot tub temperature is essential to ensuring that your soaking experience will be both relaxing and safe.

Enjoying Your Ideal Temperature Year-Round

Hot tub temperatures are not one size fits all, but most people find themselves most comfortable in a temperature somewhere between 100°F and 102°F. Experimenting with temperature allows you to understand what gives you the most enjoyable and comfortable soaking temperature.

Once you find your ideal hot tub temperature, allowing the temperature level to remain at this temperature setting consistently will ensure you are able to more conveniently enjoy your tub in every season without the need of waiting for water temperatures to heat. In the winter months, some set their temperatures one or two degrees higher than average to compensate for the extra chill in the air. Whereas in the summer, some users set their ideal hot tub temperature to as low as 95°F. Because this is lower than the average body temperature, it allows the user to experience a refreshing soak during warmer months.

Safety First

When trying to find your ideal hot tub temperature, you should always try to pay attention to how your body responds. According to the Consumer Product Safety Administration, to avoid any risk of heat stroke or other dangers, hot tub temperatures should not exceed 104°F.

Most modern hot tubs are designed not to exceed this temperature but check your manufacturer’s instructions to review any built-in safety mechanisms. It’s critical to be especially careful when children are enjoying your hot tub, as their smaller size makes them especially vulnerable to high temperatures. A great rule of thumb is to lower your spa temperature to 98°F when children are present and make sure they only take five to ten-minute-long soaks.
