How to Prep Your Hot Tub Before Going on Vacation

by BlueLagoon / Thursday, 27 September 2018 / Published in Hot Tubs
Vacation Planning

You are heading out of town for a well-deserved vacation but are you forgetting something? Your hot tub will need maintenance, especially if you’re going away for an extended period. If steps are not taken to prevent algae growth you could return to find your spa green. Don’t fret, Blue Lagoon – the premier dealer of hot tubs in California – is here to help! Here are some useful tips before you head out:

Check the weather

What does the forecast say? A lot of your preparations will depend on the weather while you are away.

Warm Weather

You don’t need to worry about leaving your hot tub running while you’re away, but algae might be a problem.

You will need to increase the levels of chlorine. Add a little more shock into the tub and let the jets run for half an hour to ensure proper circulation. After that, you can turn off the jets, heater and pump. You can even turn off the power source to be extra-safe during warm months.

Cold Weather

Algae’s less likely to grow during cold days but if it gets really cold, the water might freeze and that will wreck your pipes.

If you are in an area where the weather drops below freezing, then you’ll need to add extra water to the tub and make sure it’s properly heated. The extra water helps ensure the tub retains more heat. When its heated properly, you can turn the thermostat down by ten degrees, so your electric bill won’t get too high while the water stays warm.

Winter jackets or spa covers are also useful for added protection against winter weather.

All-Weather Advice for Hot Tubs in California

Warm or cold weather here are a few more steps needed to ensure hot tubs in California stay in proper order for the duration of any vacation.

Chemical Levels

Check the levels before you head out. If you’re going to be out for two weeks or longer, it’s helpful to have someone check on the water while you are away.

Filters

Check your filters and ensure there are no flow issues. Change the filters if necessary. You don’t want to come home and be greeted with a major malfunction.

Lock the Cover

If no one is watching your place it’s possible unwanted guests could drop by and goof off. If anything happens, you could be held liable. Ensure your tub is covered and locked.

With these tips, you can enjoy your vacation without having to worry about your hot tub or what state you’ll find it in when you return. For further inquiries, contact Blue Lagoon, your number one source for hot tubs in California. Here’s to having a great vacation!
